From Treguier to Perros-Guirec

On Monday we planned to go from Treguier to Treburden. We wanted to leave Treguier around high water as the current ripping through the marina is notorious on the ebb tide. However, Treguier has a sill to pass over to get in to the marina so we couldn't get into the marina until after four in the afternoon. As we were leaving at eight we planned to sail slowly down the river from Treguier then anchor off Perros-Guirec for a couple of hours before going round the corner to Treburden and arrive after four.
There was a light Southerly wind behind us as we sailed down the river. The forecast was S/SW F4 to 5 so we kept a reef in the main from the day before. In spite of the light winds with the tide ebbing underneath us we were still doing five knots over the ground.
Sailing Down the Jaudy from Treburden
After our gentle sail down river passing La Corne light we turned North with the wind on the beam after having put a reef in the genoa. It wasn't long before we were heading West with two reefs in both the main and the genoa making six knots through the water.
It became more overcast with a little rain. We had planned to go along the South West route to anchor off Perros-Gueric, but with the wind from the SW we pressed on Westwards towards the headland at Ploumanac'h. As we approached there was a heavy black cloud covering most of the horizon with rain coming from it.
We turned South East to go along the West Passage into the Anse de Perros. We then got hit by the rain and wind. Visibility was down to a few meters as we navigated the channel.
Te rain cleared but it was still windy when we found the waiting buoys for Perros-Guirec that we planned to pick up. We decided it would be easier to anchor so we anchored off the headland laying out 25m of chain in 5m of water at 1215.
After lunch and having changed into dry clothes we discussed what to do. Having not visited Perros-Guirec by boat we thought we would give it a try. The marina has a larged retaining sill with a gate in it that opens when the water is over the sill. I checked the tides and calculated that the water would be over the sill at 1730.
About 1700 we weighed anchor and made our way to the marina. The was no answer on the radio. We crept up towards the marina watching our depth and rounded the mole to find the gate to the marina closed. We decided to turn round and anchor off the beach North of the marina. Having anchored we called the Marina Lock on the phone, which fortunately was answered! We asked when the lock was open that evening, and after some confusion we were told that the gate was open. Se we weighed anchor and rounded the mole again to see a yacht leaving the marina followed by green lights for us to enter. We berthed on the visitors pontoon and phoned the lock again to get information about where the showers were and shower codes etc.
